Daily Duties at Ambient Control Systems, Inc. / Vigilys, Inc. :
With the transfer of the irrigation technology to the Dig Corporation, the CEO resigned. I was promoted by the Board of Directors to the position of CEO. My first responsibility was to work with the technical team in order to review ACS’s technology portfolio with the objective of defining the corporation’s technology goals. We selected two directions within which to develop technology. With a mission to protect lives and property from the impact of wildfires, I led the team that successfully designed and developed a prototype FireALERT wildfire detection system. After two years of lessons learnt through the testing of these early prototype systems, we developed the first production generation of the FireALERT, called the MK I. In 2005, we secured two purchase orders to install 20 systems in Deadwood, South Dakota and Fallbrook, California. These systems remained in service through 2010. Based on the performance data gathered from the MK I systems, we began the development of the next generation FireALERT MK II. Running in parallel with the FireALERT program, I was responsible for overseeing the design evolution of the company’s first and second generation Event Management and Mitigation Software Platforms that provided first responders with map based geolocation data of fires as they were detected by FireALERT sensors. Concurrent with the development of the FireALERT, and resulting from our expertise in solar energy harvesting technologies, I hired a military consultant to begin a program of sustained marketing with the Department of Defense (DoD). I oversaw the company’s efforts to market our solar energy harvesting capabilities to the US Special Operations Forces (SOF) and the Army CERDEC, amongst other agencies. In 2005, our efforts finally paid off, leading to the award of a government Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) contract to develop a solar powered energy harvesting system for unattended ground sensors. Throughout the following three year program, I performed high level program management handling product concept design and development, kickoff meetings, design reviews, interim and closeout meetings, report generation and financials.
What they like about Ambient Control Systems, Inc. / Vigilys, Inc. :
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
