Daily Duties at Northwestern University:
I was the defacto office manager of the student health service despite my title, and I worked directly under the Director of Nursing. I was responsible for supervising the nursing staff and other patient representatives in the absences of the Director of Nursing, working closely with the Director of Medicine formulating clinic policies and procedures, orientating new staff including non-medical, doctors, and nurses, and writing policies and procedures for the clinic. I was also responsible for ensuring all the students of the university were compliant for their immunization requirements in relation to State of Illinois law. I was responsible for clinic supplies, and I determined which products were the best cost value for our uses. I helped supervise the women's health clinic as well.
What they like about Northwestern University:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
