Daily Duties at Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Sw Hospital:
• Direct the efforts of 28 Medical Technologists, Medical Technologists and Lab Techs and operate a 24/7, Level III Clinical Laboratory. • Full operational responsibility including, budget administration, procedure writing and review, quality assessments and updates, leaning processes, staffing, employee training, equipment management, and laboratory supplies management. • Led the effort to standardize procedures, processes, methodologies and equipment for the 8-hospital system. Result: The standardized approach is beginning to show dividends by improving test reliability, reducing testing costs, and improving flexibility in staffing across the system. • Implemented the delegation of procedure writing, scheduling, supply reagent review, validation of new processes within the department. Interviewed department lead personnel to find areas of desire for growth and strengths. Review of procedure manuals, Quality Manual, Department maintenance performed consistently. Result: Department personnel have been noted as having a significant role in the department development and maintenance within the facility and system. • Provide monthly and quarterly review and assessment of Quality improvement for the System Laboratories. Quality improvement review occurs on a monthly basis and is reported to the System Quality committee for MOR of the system. • Quarterly reviews are performed to assure maintenance of high quality care for patients within the system and to review cost to the system. Result: Quality is achieved, patient care is maintained, and costs are kept at a minimum due to continual review. • Developed and implemented a comprehensive training program for new lab employees. Documented procedures for receiving and preparing cultures for incubation; outsourcing specimens; reviewing and reporting cultures. Result: Improved and standardized the work flow and increased lab productivity. • Prepared and performed IT build for laboratory processes for the Memorial Herman hospital system. Worked with the internal IT department and assisted in the design and testing of a Laboratory Information System upgrade. Scheduled • Train-the-Trainer sessions for team members to conduct training session for other labs in the Memorial Herman system. Result: Aggressively progressing toward implementation on 03/31/08.
