Daily Duties at Canadian National Railway:

- Plan, prepare and maintain the Southern Region Operation Center (SROC) operational schedule for a staff of 80 Rail Traffic Controllers (RTC). - Maintain operating continuity for 3 shifts on 14 positions, 365 days a year. - Project Administrator for the CN Business Continuity Plan (BCP): Emergency action plan for an unrecoverable Rail Traffic Control failure in the SROC at the CN Homewood US headquarters, relocating all operations and staff to the CN Kirk Yard facility in Gary, IN. - Work as liaison with Payroll, Human Resources and the American Train Dispatchers Association (ATDA) for all issues concerning 80 RTCs. - Develop and implement RTC training plan resulting in a continued reduction in staffing deficiencies and over-time occurrences. - Provide control functions to ensure the safe movement of trains and other on-track railway equipment. - Minimize delays to all railroad traffic through effective planning and scheduling. - Communicate, interpret and relay signals and other indications affecting train movements. - Optimize track employment to maximize railroad network performance. - Ensure cost effective movement of trains and other on-track railroad equipment to optimize physical and human resource assets. - Enter data into the various information and control systems. - Maintain an on-going awareness of the operation of the railway, equipment and signals, car handling, operating manuals, computer applications and collective agreements. - Assist in solving any problems that arise in assigned territories.
