Daily Duties at University Of Miami:

- Developing and carrying on basic research projects, data analysis, writing original papers for publication in peered-reviewed journals. - Attending and presenting at scientific meetings and conferences. - Reviewing scientific grants for funding. - Partecipate to grant writing for intra- and extra-mural funding. - Supervising, training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate medical students involved in my research projects or in independent projects. - Collaborating with other Scientists and contribute to the development of secondary research projects. My research areas include: 1) Co-morbidity of depression and neuropathic pain: - Studying the response of hippocampal stem cells and myelin plasticity in the development and recovery from depression following peripheral nerve injury; - Investigating the role of TNF and TNFRs in the development of neuropathic pain and comorbid depression in response to peripheral nerve injury. 2) Investigating new potential treatments for neuropathic pain, based on the pharmacological modulation of TNF activity through selective inhibition of soluble TNF. Collaboration projects: - Identification of brain damage biomarkers released in the cerebral microdialysate of rats following traumatic brain injury. - Human Stem Cells replacement therapy in the mammalian brain after injury. - Remyelination enhancing therapies for multiple sclerosis.
