Daily Duties at Markel Corporation:

Manager – IT Leadership & Governance 2012 – 2013 • Managed a team of business analysts and testers to develop a rate/quote/bind system portal for wholesale customers which resulted in reducing underwriter touch and expenses as well as creating a customer experience that now leads the industry segment • Worked closely with business sponsors and the IT development team to ensure delivery of expected tools that added value to internal and external production and efficiencies Manager – Atlas Project 2008 – 2012 • Managed the business process work supporting the Policy Administrative System Project • Evaluated four different Wholesale Policy Systems, determined needed changes and presented recommended solutions in a clear and concise manner to senior management • Created comprehensive project schedules detailing defined milestones, deliverables and resources in partnership with project leadership team, business leaders and vendor personnel • Set the Markel “Atlas” initiative as standard through in depth collaboration with business to detail full-blown future state process flows of thirty-eight “wing to wing” underwriting processes • Oversaw the first Markel Process Summit with business SME’s and ambassadors • Directed business team through significant process rationalization due to new business model implementation • Performed a gap analysis on vendor software against defined process flows; recommended and obtained executive approval for customizations Manager – IT Development 2006 – 2008 • Managed a team of Business Analysts and Developers providing systems support for new product launches and for policy system updates/maintenance • Analyzed the internal administration system for new product introduction and recommended alternative development solutions • Oversaw the implementation of “Excess/Umbrella” and “MSU” portals which allowed agents to obtain quotes electronically resulting in significant revenue growth in both product lines • Conducted various training classes including “Markel New Associate Orientation” and “Introduction to Insurance for Techies” Business Analyst 2004 – 2006 • Supported the IT Management/Special Projects and Corporate Development departments • Utilized strategic planning skills to assist in identifying, defining and implementing strategic initiatives
