Daily Duties at Railpower Locomotives / Hybrid Technology:

Led the full rail side of the business, responsibilities included the customer communication on the in service locomotive base, driving the resolution of issues within the organization, balancing problem resolution with the development and improvement of the technology. Being the primary spokesperson for the company, representing the technology, the company and the innovation of the locomotives in a conservative Industry reluctant to change. Additionally the Team needed to work in concert as the sales process and cycle is long and somewhat complex. The sale of these locomotives is largely dependent on the customer receiving Feral Funding under the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality act (CMAQ). To obtain this funding the customer must work in conjunction with a local municipality providing a public/private partnership. My team consisted of both Sales folks and an Emissions team they would work in concert to make the process of funding application thru award seamless and painless for the customer. Communication in the role was a critical function as an example; the Municipal partner most likely knew nothing about locomotives and the customer had a very limited knowledge on the funding process. Utilizing my communication skills required a balance to provide meaningful information to all parties allowing the process to be seamless. Introduction of this technology presented its own challenges, in an industry that is reluctant to change. In all the business side of the job required a close eye be kept on the P&L, Staffing, Budget and customer interface. Interfacing with the customer included not only being a part of closing the Sales of new locomotives but the support of the in service locomotives and addressing the customers concerns. This required a balance of the resources to resolve customer concerns while still improving and advancing the technology. Setting strategic direction for the Locomotive product line included vendor selections and partnerships along with what markets to set our targets on to have a growth business.
