Daily Duties at U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers:

Act as technical advisers to representatives of the using agency, and the Area/Resident Engineer and staff for interpretation of the plans and specifications pertaining to the design, installation, and inspection of facilities. Work closely with the A/E firm, customer, contractor and other stake holders. Resolve design or construction issues in the field such as problems in the coordination of tie-ins with existing systems; and integration of mechanical installations with other phases of construction. Assist in project quality assurance by performing frequent surveillance of contractor’s control of construction quality. This also involves issuing notices of any deficient contractor work or procedures for corrective action by contractors. Accept mechanical installations and reject any mechanical work which is not in conformance with contract provisions. Review and answer shop drawings, equipment specifications, and design analysis from the contractor, ensuring these documents were in compliance with required operating characteristics and physical limitations as shown in contract plans and specifications. Attended laboratory testing of manufacturers equipment and work closely with manufacturers representatives. Evaluate proposed design changes, cost estimates, and recommend contract changes to the Area Engineer and attend scoping meetings and negotiations. Team lead for commissioning activities and field testing of mechanical systems. Witness all acceptance tests of complicated mechanical systems and installed equipment; evaluate test data; and recommend acceptance or rejection of such systems and equipment.
