Initially support for litigation department; switched to social security department to learn social security law, policies and procedures, develop claims from interviewing potential claimant, evaluating strengths and weaknesses of claims with attorney versus Listing requirements; became acquainted with court clerks; monitoring all deadlines, timely filing Request for Reconsideration, Request for Hearing Before an Administrative Law Judge,disability reports both with state agency and social security offices; filing documents with correct offices as claims proceeded through the claims process; obtaining medical records from medical providers per client information and electronically filing same as required; maintained attorney hearing calendar in coordination with office manager in charge of personal injury department; preparing hearing Briefs by summarizing medical records; preparing attorney's cross examination questions for medical and/or vocational experts to be present at the hearing based on case-by-case evidence; preparing Claimant for hearing; preparing client's hearing questions for attorney. Many times accompanied attorney to court for hearing. Helped to transition personnel to e-filing of social security documents and medical records with office manager in charge of computer system; monitoring of hearing decision deadlines, ordering hearing tapes from hearing office or Appeals Council, listening and summarizing same; reviewing ALj Decision and formulating and analyzing possible arguments to file with Request for Review with Appeals Council to obtain a Remand Order; monitored payment of awarded benefits to claimant and attorney fees to firm; periodic preservation of closed claims on disc for a minimum of 7 years. Requested and maintained law library and NOSSCR newsletters to update firms social security law library. Coordinated and trained personnel in all of the above when 2nd office opened up. Over the years trained 4 assistants to fully develop social security claims; learn Listings; how to look up law in Federal Regulations (both hands on and computer access) of HALLEX, POMS, SSRs and Federal Register rules and regulations. Developed directory for latest Compassionate Allowances, case law, listing updates, form letters, motions, medical/optical/lab abbreviations to help in summarizing medical records; periodically conducted file reviews with assistants and attorney; weekly review of court calendar for both offices; provided attorney with monthly status of active claims and quarterly report of paid fees from office manager.
