Daily Duties at City Of Boston :

Appointed Commissioner of Boston’s Environment Department by Mayor Thomas M. Menino. Led update to the “City of Boston’s Climate Action Plan for 2014”incorporating input through collaboration with communities, businesses, organizations and universities; devising strategies to help communities mitigate and adapt to climate change. Directed, mentored and led the diverse and professional staff including an Environment Team of energy efficiency managers, air quality and wetland specialists and a Preservation Team of planning specialists, architects, an archeologist and administrative clerical staff. Served as spokesperson for Boston on climate change, mitigation and adaption objectives, green building goals, resiliency planning and preservation efforts. Engaged staff, other city employees and departments, communities and external organizations in discussions on climate resiliency and climate change efforts, local initiatives to increase awareness and preparedness. Oversaw all contracts, grants and budgets for the Environment Department and for the Boston Food Initiative in excess of 2 Million dollars, hired staff and counseled personnel. Developed and implemented strategies to advance city objectives on environment, energy and preservation issues and represented the city before academic, business and government entities as well as communities and private non-profits. Supported city initiatives with strong communication outreach and messaging, presented before Boston City Council and related city boards and commissions.
