Daily Duties at Lockheed Martin Management Systems Designers, Inc.:
Contractor at National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIH/NIAID) Perform scientific studies involving infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria (Burkholderia cepacia complex, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Methylobacterium extorquens, Acidomonas methanolica, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Granulibacter bethesdensis). These organisms cause disease in patients with Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD), Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and other immunosuppressed patients, such as those with cancer. A number of these strains have proven to be problematic because of their inherent multi-drug resistance (MDR) to clinically available antibiotics. In collaboration with Sarepta Therapeutics I am developing antisense antibiotics which target essential genes of various pathogenic bacteria to reduce viability in pure culture, tissue culture, and in animal models of infection. These antisense antibiotics are often more potent than many traditional antibiotics.
What they like about Lockheed Martin Management Systems Designers, Inc.:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
