Laboratory Manager for Dr. Roy G. Smith, Chairman of department. I was responsible for procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment, the maintenance of equipment, and the management of mouse colonies. I was the lab representative to the animal use committee. I served as laboratory safety coordinator, assuring compliance of lab personnel and the laboratory with health and safety rules and regulations as well as writing protocols for the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) for research involving hazardous biological materials and recombinant DNA. I assisted in preparing scientific journal articles and research grant proposals, and preparation of figures. I also assisted in training personnel, the development of experimental protocols, the development and implementation of animal use protocols, and conducted research. I worked on a study involving caloric restriction of ghrelin- and Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor (GHSR) knockout mice. I was also involved in studying heterodimerization between GSHR and dopamine receptors. My most recent research centered on the investigation of two new soluble insulin receptor isoforms.
What they like about The Scripps Research Institute, Scripps Florida:
The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
