Daily Duties at Va Ct Healthcare System West Haven Campus:

Charge nurse: 6 bed icu/12 bed step down unit. Ensure that assignments are appropriate for each staff member's experience and comfort levels while also incorporating patient acuity levels. Keep in communication with house supervisor regarding availability of beds, potential admissions, transfers, and "road trips" ordered for patients (i.e. CT Scan). Identify situations and notify unit head nurse manager of events that require intervention from consulting services (i.e. psychiatry to evaluate all patients placed in restraints). STAFF NURSE: provide exceptional , comprehensive, multidisciplinary, evidence based care for two critically ill patients requiring invasive or noninvasive ventilation, multiple drips for systemic support, and other life sustaining measures. Able to quickly identify even slight changes in patient status that require immediate intervention to decrease risk of further deterioration.
