Daily Duties at Time Warner Book Group/Hachette Book Group:

My primary responsibility was to oversee the production and manufacture of at least five hardcover titles per month with press runs ranging from 20,000 to 650,000+ copies. This included hiring and managing book designers as needed, supervising the typesetting and trafficking of proof pages, and QA during the printing and binding of the books. I also acted as the Production department's “super-user” for the company's in-house Digital Asset Management program, as well as other proprietary systems, which meant that I was a point of first contact for my colleagues if they had a question or issue with the system, and would train them in the use of the systems as needed. I also served on steering committees for the development of and upgrades to primary in-house systems, as well as acted as an advisor on company-wide digital workflow initiatives.

What they like about Time Warner Book Group/Hachette Book Group:

You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.

Climbers who worked at Time Warner Book Group/Hachette Book Group had these interests:

Books
The Tao of Pooh When asked "What's my favorite book" by Kirkus for my business card, this was my answer.
Neverwhere This book by Neil Gaiman, one of my favorite authors, was a contender for my favorite book.
Bitter Seeds The first book in the Milkweed Triptych, Bitter Seeds by Ian Tregellis was another contender for my favorite book. But as it's sort of "the new hotness" in my list of best reads, it was hard to label it my favorite book of all time.
