Daily Duties at Kirkus Media:

As Director, I was the public face of the division and the first point of contact for Kirkus Editorial's authors and publishing partners. Once a manuscript was delivered, I would then pair it with an editor who possessed the appropriate genre expertise and review that editor's work before the manuscript was returned to the client, performing additional edits as needed. In addition to supervising Kirkus Editorial's pool of over sixty freelance editors and other vendors, I recruited, tested, and onboarded all new editors for the service, making sure they could consistently live up to the very high bar of excellence clients expected of the Kirkus brand. I also had to prepare weekly reports on the division's revenue and metrics on the number and type of jobs taken in, as well as devise and implement new services requested by our publishing partners.

What they like about Kirkus Media:

The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.

Climbers who worked at Kirkus Media had these interests:

Books
The Tao of Pooh When asked "What's my favorite book" by Kirkus for my business card, this was my answer.
Neverwhere This book by Neil Gaiman, one of my favorite authors, was a contender for my favorite book.
Bitter Seeds The first book in the Milkweed Triptych, Bitter Seeds by Ian Tregellis was another contender for my favorite book. But as it's sort of "the new hotness" in my list of best reads, it was hard to label it my favorite book of all time.
