Daily Duties at Charles Rivers Laboratories:

Served in progressive leadership and technical positions for animal research laboratory. Hired as lab animal technician and quickly promoted to floor supervisor, followed by facility manager after 12 months. Responsibly for issuing identification cards for animals; maintaining records on breeding cycles, reproduction, behavior, and health status; compiled and prepared statistical reports Maintained data base for financial records and animal research data; developed budgets and monitored expenditures; develops recharge rates according to set guidelines; maintained inventory and ordered supplies; Acted as liaison between vendors and Division of Veterinary Resources; hired, trained, and evaluated staff performance; conducted training for animal care technicians, investigators, and other research staff; consulted with Federal Animal Welfare Act inspectors; supervised animal waste collection and disposal per federal standards; located special sources and negotiated agreements for animals, supplies, and equipment. Supervised over 20 technicians and attendants; improved safety by enforcing the use of personal protective equipment. Ensured compliance to all company policies, standards and operating procedures. Facilitated staff meetings and scheduled safety meetings. Shipped and received animals according to the National Institute of Health guidelines. Operated Edstrom Watchdog System and provided troubleshooting for smart boxes Good working knowledge of: federal animal care regulations and American Association for Accrediting Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and National Institute of Health (NIH) guidelines; anatomical and physiological differences of small lab animals; diseases and illnesses common to small lab animals; procedures for diagnostic tests of fecal, blood, and urine samples; administering injections and performing euthanasia and basic sterile surgical procedures on small animals; handling and restraining animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, and rodents; interpreting and applying rules and regulations; analyzing work flow and establishing work schedules and procedures; generating reports from laboratory data and other records.
