Daily Duties at Polar Materials/Vitro Minerals:
CFO/Controller responsible for all accounting, finance and reporting functions. Cash Management is a challenge due to the financial growth they are experiencing. In charge of all accounting systems, budgeting, internal controls, tax planning, human resources and OSHA Safety director. Polar Materials Had 8 people who reported to me in the corporate office and one person in each of our 2 manufacturing plants. Vitro Minerals was a startup company and I developed all the accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, inventory, and payroll systems, as well as, human resources and OSHA Safety plan. There was one other person in the corporate office and one person in the manufacturing plant that I supervised, therefore I had to process a lot of transactions myself. I was very detail oriented and hands on at Vitro Minerals due to it being a start up company. Our President, Joseph Keating, was out of town in customers offices 90% of the time when I worked with him at Polar Materials and Vitro Minerals, I therefore did everything else or supervised everything else that a company does except for the direct sales to customers. I worked with the insurance companies, bankers, leasing and all governmental communications. I designed every accounting system, trained every accounting employee, I prepared every budget, Managed the cash, ran every payroll, ran every check run. I performed the monthly closing entries and prepared the monthly financial statements. I explained the budget to actual and prior year variances to the President and the Board of Directors. I performed cost accounting on every product so the President would know the margins on every sale of every product to every customer. I prepared schedules which showed the volume of sales that each customers were purchasing each month and warned him when a particular customer increased or decreased their buying vs. their normal buying pattern. I would let him know about any product returns or quality complaints from the customers so he could make immediate changes at the plant to correct the product quality. The President consulted me and we made every major business decision together over the 14 years. Every hiring and firing decision, every growth or decrease in headcount we made together.
