Daily Duties at Sphaera Pharma:
Firstly search for generally recognized as safe (GRAS) chemicals and reagents. Secondly use GRAS reagents to construct drug motifs that can be biologically cleaved and modify them suitably for their use in quaternize (modified) drugs. Modification of existing FDA approved drugs, to synthesize new derivatives that would act a pro-drugs. The aim of this research was to modify either of the following, solubility, PK/PD profile, absorption, obscure form first pass metabolism and P-glycoprotein 1 The modifications also helped in effective formulations and drug re-purposing (for other pharmacological action than it is labeled for). I was actively involved in design, synthesis and purification of 11beta-hydroxy pregnenolone derivatives. The purpose of this project was to develop steroidal compounds that closely matched the 3D molecular structure of epichatechin. The final out come would be activation of 5' adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase to ameliorates muscular distrophy.
