Daily Duties at Walter Reed Army Medical Center:

Cared for patients according to patient care policies and procedures on the wards of general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, urology, gynecology, oncology, and telemetry. Directed the delivery of patient care provided by new staff and new contract professionals and paraprofessionals 3-4 times a week on the general surgery ward. Ensured that appropriate patient care assignments were created, and implementation of patient care was provided by Joint Commission Standards. Supported the vision of the Joint Capitol Area Medical Command to provide world class patient care by ensuring continuity of safe patient distribution. Identified threats to patient safety, and improved the recognition and responses of professionals and paraprofessionals to changes in patient conditions. Ensured that the needs of patients and families were accommodated in a timely manner by professionals and paraprofessionals. Delivered competent, quality patient-family centered care that contributed toward achieving the national patient safety goals. Eliminated the need for high risk invasive procedures by supporting other nursing wards in patient care delivery with an expert ability to insert peripheral intravenous catheters. Reduced the delays in patient treatment and recovery by assisting colleagues with facilitating quality patient care. Improved the effectiveness of communication among caregivers, and contributed towards a culture of excellence expected by the Walter Reed Health Care System by demonstrating effective communication and collaboration among professionals and paraprofessionals within the work environment. Provided effective clinical orientation as preceptor for novice personnel from new graduate nursing programs; this included the customization of learning activities to assist each preceptee in achieving clinical competence.
