Daily Duties at City Of Madison Police Department:

Provided emergency and routine police services, conducted criminal investigations, completed thorough police reports, presented court testimony, as well as having maintained community contacts. These duties required: o Strong Communication Skills – Able to talk to people from all walks of life, ask pertinent questions, actively listen, explain difficult concepts, and compile information into accurate reports o Ability to Problem Solve – Finding creative solutions, within the framework of the law, to resolve problems within the community. o Detail Orientation – Competent fact gathering to ensure that no information was overlooked prior to making a determination on the outcome of a case, and then properly documenting the information. o Teamwork – Efficient working as part of a team; either leading the police call by organizing a plan and delegating tasks, or being able to carry out my assigned task within the team on another officer’s call. Positions held concurrent to performing patrol duties: • Field Training Officer Trained, supervised, and evaluated new police recruits while they performed patrol duties out on the street for their initial training periods. • Special Events Team Member Tasked with crowd management and riot control in the event of civil unrest to preserve life, property, and the constitutional rights of the public o Team Grenadier Responsible for chemical and less-than-lethal munitions employment o Crowd Control Training Instructor Instructed non-Special Events Team members of the police department in crowd control techniques • Neighborhood Liaison Officer Police contact assigned to a neighborhood association to facilitate neighborhood-level problem solving, and trained residents in crime prevention techniques. • Background Investigator Investigated potential police recruits to ascertain the quality of the applicant and determine if the individual was qualified for the position of police officer. • Adjunct Rifle Trainer Assistant firearms trainer to commissioned department personnel.
