Daily Duties at Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals:
My primary responsibilities included managing a 6-8 member entirely Swedish research team within a matrix organization and to be a member of a due diligence team assigned to evaluate programs of external partners with promising dyslipidemia target compounds. As a manager, I prioritized the laboratory efforts of team members on different in-house programs within the dyslipidemia and metabolic disorders therapeutic areas. In addition, I led efforts in identifying new potential targets and establishing research programs to establish screening methods and mechanistic studies for these targets. Through the efforts of the due diligence team, we identified a U.S. based pharmaceutical company as having a promising program that was entering phase I clinical trials. In a 10 million dollar initial payment, we established a partnership with this company. Part of my team’s priority then became to thoroughly understand the mechanism of action of this compound using our established in our in vivo and in vitro assays and to report back to AstraZeneca senior management our findings.
