Daily Duties at Sysco Corporation:
This was a promotion to move to Houston. I am often given areas that are not performing and I change those areas to be high performing entities. My responsibilities included leading the Transportation Management System that was used by every facet of our operation. Creating a Team of professionals that ensured prompt payment of our bills to our carriers, negotiating with 3rd party TMS provider for system enhancements, drive automation in process improvement flows, and lead software upgrade initiatives. I worked with all users to determine system long range strategy build, solve issues, and work with Supply Chain executive team to drive the right strategy. I would make presentations to Executive leadership team as to the direction needed. The area was not performing to expectations when I took over the Department. Employee engagement was in the 50%, the Sr. Manager needed basic leadership skills, Other teams were not working together to use the system correctly, automation was not being used for load building, and system integrity was low. We would experience system glitches that resulted in our financial metrics being incorrect. I would meet with different groups of employees to determine how the system is being used, if the users need training, and take the info to incorporate into the overall TMS long term strategy for logistics. I would negotiate needed changes with our 3rd party supplier, garner support from the Chief Technology officer of our company on our strategy and work with the VP Supply Chain. Our goal was to regain trust in the TMS solution we have, make improvements to have the system reduce expenses via productivity improvements, and provided the right training. This group I lead had one Sr. Manager, one Manager and 13 team members. However the TMS user group was over 150 People and 25 Teams. I interacted with various teams to ensure TMS success. The Invoicing team was responsible for the shipment lifecycle management. They ensured our carriers were being paid on time and that shipments were closing as required with in the time needed.
What they like about Sysco Corporation:
The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
