Daily Duties at Sysco Corporation:

The Load Planning Department was the largest group with in the Logistics Department and was by far the most complicated. This area had a past of issues with trust and going to HR with many issues. The last leader had quit and I was repositioned to this area as I often am to fix problem areas. The planning Department consisted of taking all inbound PO's from our DC's and aggregating them into full trucks to that DC from the supply point. We managed over 20,000 shipments a month. it was our job to ensure that the right carrier was recommended for the load, the cost was correct, and that the service provided was timely. The planning team involved 33 people of which 3 reported directly to me. This team ultimately ensured that our $700M spend was done in the right way. Indirectly my team was the central point of all that the Logistics Department accomplished so I worked with the 100 people in the Logistics Department, The 35 Super users in the field and DC executives. The 3 people reporting to me were new in their positions. I provided education and guidance for their leadership. My role with this team was to walk the floor, understand their issues, talk to executives at the DC's were issues were elevated, and resolve carrier issues with our carrier development team leaders. I was responsible for driving the process improvement and efficiency strategy for this area. This area was also responsible for the inbound PO's picked up for our Redistribution DC's. The second area that I was responsible for was the Optimization Team. This team was focused on reducing costs in our logistics network. There were two teams which in total encompassed 6 People, of which 2 reported to me. This team drove reduction in cost annually of about $9Million. One team was focused on normal business except produce as a category. One team was only focused on produce. Produce has been a significant drive and required its own team. I would set the strategy for both of these teams along with the leadership. The two sr. Managers that reported to me were very experienced leaders; however, were new to strategy, team collaboration, and driving change. I worked with these leaders on these items.
