Daily Duties at Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company:

Achieved STE Qualification (license to test and operate) on Los Angeles class submarines (S6G), Nimitz class aircraft carriers (A4W) and USS Enterprise reactors (A2W). Reactor Plant Test Engineer (RPTE) – I hired in as a Mechanical Test Engineer (MTE), responsible for solving technical issues and performing reactor plant testing under the direction of the STE. Within 2 years I was a qualified Shift Test Engineer (STE), directing all attesting and operations on my shift. Promoted to Shift Test Supervisor (STS), a senior member of the reactor test organization, I oversaw the work of multiple STEs on my shift. As Reactor Plant Test Engineer (RPTE), I was responsible for all testing in a given reactor plant, including operations of the plant on a 24-hour-per-day basis, authorization of testing and maintenance, and supervision of all personnel working in the plant. Supervised personnel included Shift Test Engineers, Mechanical Test Engineers and Electrical Test Engineers.
