Daily Duties at Patterson Park Community Development Corporation :

1. Provide technical support to 4 community organizations with 250 members collectively, to build local capacity, develop civic mindedness, reduce crime, and address blight issues within the Patterson Park neighborhood. The largest was the Patterson Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA) and residents expressed interest in the topic of housing code enforcement and vacant houses a. Began a campaign to address the large number of vacant houses in PPNA’s boundaries with the goal of improve property values, build community skills and help stabilize the community by making it safer. b. Met with three residents who were interested in creating a Housing Code Enforcement committee; concern was that there was no relationship between the Housing Code office and the neighborhood and officials had not been responsive in the past. i. With the help of the other PPNA members, The Committee began to document with pictures and background information the over 200 vacant houses within the approximately twenty block community ii. Committee also researched housing code issues, and giving leads c. I built a relationship with the community and Baltimore City Housing Code officials. i. We keep the Mayor, and City Council representative informed of the group existence and interactions with the Housing Code office. ii. Meetings with the Housing Code office never happened, but due to the communication with the City and district officials and documentation of the code, violations we were able to get “The Pit” condemned within two months of starting the committee. 2. Advise the Executive Director on assessment needs of stakeholders to identify resources, priorities, planning, and build partnerships between government and foundations 3. Managed the Healthy Neighborhood Capital Grant to restore the community of $50,000.
