Daily Duties at Verizon Communications :

As a member of Network Architecture and Design team, my responsibilities were to research and proof of concept new and emerging technologies in our Emerging Video Technology Lab in Waltham, MA. I had 3 lab technicians i managed and they were responsible for the physical builds and wiring and rack and stack of new equipment brought in for evaluation. I reached out to multiple vendors for information on their product including technical specs. design considerations etc. Brought vendors onsite to do presentations on their technology and present my ideas for new proof of concept technologies to our senior management. Whatever technology was chosen, i project managed the step by step process to get vendors into verizon secured network, get their equipment configured and integrated with our existing replica of our FiOS network. Ensured all SW updates were done in a timely manner, designed the network infrastructure and created all the testing plans. Upon successful proof of concept testing i would create the documentation and test results in a presentation and then conduct demos for the CTO CEO etc. to gain funding for new technology implementations. I also managed a $3 M lab budget and was responsible for all purchasing and receiving and reporting in ICE system. Kept detailed financial records of all purchases, services, and employee/contractor expenses for year end budget reports. Managed multiple cross functional daily calls in the process of bringing Product, Operations, and Technology together to create the vision and market the technology and manage the vendors who provided the HW/SW and services for the proof of concept testing and demos. Researched and developed theory on why Streaming media can cause so much buffering. I was able to secure 4 graduate students from NYC Poly Tech and mentor them in how digital media movies and provide them with test cases to research and measure the effects of buffering on video delivery. Worked with various companies on ways to compress video formats without compromising quality in an effort to provide the network architecture for IPTV or Streaming Video OTT to allow Verizon to move long tail content off of our QAM channels and make those available to add more HD sports channels Led a cross functional team of 14 individuals in the process of planning nad implementing Verizon's FlexView service. Responsible for creating the Reference Design for streaming video and origin servers and creating the network plan for our new video streaming platform . Kept the project plan updated, tracked milestones, and ensured we stayed within our budget. Managed the scope creep, change management process and set expectations with my shareholders and vendors. Contacted and brought onsite 7 vendors that provide Transmuxing technology. Provided a matrix of requirements to them to meet verizon needs and asked each to complete it with Yes No or a date they could meet the requirement. Based on the first round responses I narrowed these down to 3 vendors and brought their transmux solutions into Verizon labs for evaluation. Created all of the test plans and test results and documentation outlining the three month process with vendor profiles, configs, results and recommendations for upper management Train new Director of technology on Video streaming and content delivery within our network Project manage the build of Verizon Digital media Proof of Concept Lab and Integration labs for testing the design and integration of our cloud solution supporting digital media services. Involved managing the vendors and their support teams to assist verizon infrastructure teams with support of their product. Collect and manage the official infrastructure build questionairre outlining exactly what needs to be built in the lab and production to support e.g. Liver streaming - how many blades, how many VMs, storage, OS, networking, Firewall requests etc. etc.
