Daily Duties at Northrop Grumman Corporation:

1. Build a full-size mockup of the cockpit of an E2 Hawkeye radar recona with demonstrator using flight simulator to provide data streams to drive glass-cockpit gauges in real-time and through the wind-screen view of the environment. This was done using code used in the H1 mission-computer product so that the displays would show the actual content that would be delivered in the E2 product. This work also involved integrating an optional map navigation product. 2. Assist marketing and engineering teams to produce a bid for the E2 Upgrade program. Work with pilots to evaluate the features of the demonstrator in the flight-simulator environment to determine the wants and needs of the pilots for the cockpit instruments. To refine the demonstrator design and to gather information for marketing to generate product requirements. 3. Investigate failures with embedded file-server component and determine how to integrate with mission-computer. File-server had to be shipped back to vendor to replace power supply. Setup Fedora Linux as substitute file-server until embedded file-server device was returned from vendor. Configure mission-computer to interact with NFS file-server reliably. Debug file-server network problems. 4. Work on methods to improve performance of graphics system. Develop benchmark program to test graphics under loading conditions similar to application. Determine what functions in vendor software are used how they fit into the time buget. Interact with vendor to improve driver performance. Work with application developers to find bottlenecks and determine where code changes make the most improvement. Find ways to break down and reorganize the rendering process to meet frame rate requirements. 5. Configure and manage network systems using TCP/IP and UDP sockets to maintain communications between mission computers and implement fail-over methods. Mission-computers would operate in pairs sharing situation data so that either mission computer could continue operation in case the other failed. Introduced using Wireshark for debugging network operations and explaining network operations. 6. Assist in trouble-shooting hardware and software problems related to data input and output.
