Daily Duties at Swing And Win:

1. I was the system administation for embedded Linux computers. I setup server and software development software. I created public-key-encryption keys for OpenSSL and SSH. I configured the systems to allow remote desktop access with secure encrypted connections. I configured the system to automatically restart applications that crashed and at power up. I maintained a complex system of embedded computers and electro-mechanical systems operating in a harsh outdoor environment. 2. I installed video capture and video recording hardrware. I modified vendor device drivers to work on Fedora Linux and updated them when APIs changed in Linux kernel updates. 3. I developed video applications using Video-for-Linux (V4L), ffmpeg, and opencv, and in-house methods. I created a zero-copy buffer algorithm to improve video capture performance and to prevent memory fragmentation. I created methods for tracking objects in live video frames and for recognizing objects. I wrote code to control pan-and-tilt camera fixtures to point at and zoom in on objects detected in video frames. I wrote code to change camera configuration to optimize operations when lighting conditions change. I created algorithms for measuring distances using video cameras. 4. I integrated multiple embedded Linux computers into a single-overall system using both wired and wireless networking. I synchronized system wide operations by implementing a state-machine driven by multicast network sockets which interacted with individual device state-machines. I implemented methods for error detection, reporting, and mitigation. I implemented web based monitoring and control of overall system with error status reporting and machine state tracking. I put the systems into a closed isolated network and configured a router to give access using Network Address Translation (NAT) so that all of the embedded computers together would appear to be a single machine from the outside. I used public-key-encryption keys to operate secure communication channels. I used the keys to create digital signatures for video recordings and operating reports to authenticate the source and times of these electronic documents to meet security, business, and legal requirements. 5. I implemented a point-of-sales (POS) application using the Apache webserver, the PostgreSQL database, and custom in-house server software based on best practices for secure application development and secure network operations. I made an effort to reduce the threat surface of the system in accordance with recommendations from the security industry. The system associated video recording and game results stored used digital-signatures for error/tampering detection with user account information stored in SQL database. Access to all information was strictly controlled. 6. I directed the actions of engineers, technicians and other personal in the process of product development, installation, and field testing.
