Daily Duties at Bae Systems:
As a Computer Forensic Specialist, I have extensive data recovery experience, having examined hundreds of hard drives. I worked with the “War on Terror” - National Security, FBI and Department of Justice. My duties involved working sensitive projects that added sensitive data to ongoing operations. I was assigned to the National Systems Group of BAE Systems and my duties included researching new IT technologies and helping develop methodologies to extract information from them. I performed in-depth Computer Forensic analysis on seized media. The analysis is performed using various tools such as EnCase, Password Recovery Tool Kit, Sam Inside, and VMWare among others. Other duties included restoring media to a forensic system and examining it from the user’s perspective. Performing this part of the analysis entails knowledge of assorted hardware, various operating systems, software applications, and an ability to troubleshoot problems. Other forensic tools and databases provided by the customer are used to assist with assigned tasks. I was responsible for writing a review of the material during the analysis to be presented to the customer. Other duties included being the primary EnCase trainer on the program. I have also used VMWARE to simulate the computer that the hard drive was used on to see what the actual user saw when they used their computer. I used the customer mail system, Domino as my primary e-mail tool along with various other parts of the CWE and CWE2 system. I also added applications on my desktop system as needed to perform my assigned duties. This was accomplished by loading software from the box and through network installations trouble shooting problems that appeared during the installation. I worked in the customer’s asset validation branch doing computer forensics.
