Causey's Pharmacy Work Values

Daily Duties at Causey's Pharmacy:

1. While on this rotation I had the opportunity to conduct MTM's. During this process I would contact pre-selected patients by phone to access how they were doing on their medications. I would ask patients if they were taking their medications as prescribed and if not, what barriers existed ie: cost or side effects. I also answered any questions patients had about their medications or health. After my conversation with patients I would contact their physician with any necessary clinical interventions such as dosage changes or alternatives in the same drug class with fewer side effects. 2. On this rotation I also gained experience with the equipment necessary for providing a variety of diagnostic tests. Patients often came to the clinic for health screenings required by their employers, during these screenings I checked blood glucose, A1C, blood pressure, and cholesterol. 3. Also, while on this rotation I coordinated a medication education day for a local employer group. As a part of this educational event I held a brown bag counseling session in which employees brought in all their current medications. My self and another student counseled employees on their medications and answered any questions they had pertaining to those medications. In addition to the brown bag session I held an informational session about over the counter herbal supplements. I created a power point presentation on over the counter herbal supplements from A to Z. I taught the employees about the medicinal properties of each of the supplements and the pros and cons of their use followed by an Q&A session.
