Daily Duties at Fairfax County Public Library:

I was hired to provide reference services including helping students find resources for doing their homework, finding reading materials for people of differnt ages, and providing higher level research for some patrons by conducting Dialog searches for scholarly materials and referring them to other organizations such as local universities. In order to determine the needs of each patron, I would conduct a reference interview. Depending upon the complexity of the request, I would consult with other staff members and in some cases contact a local university librarian for additional assistance. I instructed patrons on the use of printed and online resources so they could use them to find the resources they were looking for. I also shelved materials in the reference section, supervised volunteers, shelf read to ensure accuracy of shelving by others, and suggested materials for inclusion into our branch collection and to the system s a whole. I also was a voter registrar and was able to register people to vote.
