Daily Duties at Cygnus Corporation:

I was hired to manage the databases for the NIAMS Information Center, collect materials for their quarterly Combined Health Information Database (CHID) upload for NIH, format pubs to a standard record format creating abstracts and following existing cataloging guidelines. I also contacted vendors for ephemeral materials for this upload (as were not supposed to duplicate content from scholarly databases). I formatted these records in EBCDIC for load to the CHID database. In addition, I performed bibliographic searches in the DIALOG Database system to support an alcohol research contract, prepared abstracts and provided customer service support at the National Adoption Clearinghouse, and verified references for a series of Surgeon Generals Reports on a publications project. I also created the back of the book index for one of the Reports. After our company won the CDC Office on Smoking and Health Contracted. I was promoted to being the lead on the Database Task and worked with the IT team to create the database records, fields, and cataloging guidelines. I directly communicated with the CDC client and coordinated with them the reports they needed and the deliverable timetables. I also coordinated this task with the contractor that we had teamed with on this project. I hired and oversaw my replacement on the NIAMS project and supervised staff members on the Smoking and Health project. In addition, for another project oversaw a chemistry library on the campus of NIH. I supervised employees that did thte actual shelving and periodical check-in.
