Daily Duties at Environ Corporation:

I was hired to manage the health sciences and environment library at the Arlington headquarters office. The library had experienced an interval of neglect under its previous manager and they wanted someone who could turn the library into an organized space and to bring down costs, reduce redundancies in the collections of the other offices and facilitate services across the offices. I managed withthe help of various staff members who worked with me all operations of the Arlington headquarters branch including book and journal/newsletter purchases, routing these journals and newsletters to the appropriate staff members, keeping files of relevant journals articles by subject and weeding these articles as they became out of date or the science was updated. I also cataloged internal reports and filed them by contract and subject and made them accessible in our library database. I also prepared monthly budget,activity, and personnel reports for our office and other offices as needed. For our LA office, I advised the planning and implementation of te space there including how many bookshelves they would need, necessary equipment including photocopiers, search service vendors that they would need to contract with (Lexis/Nexis, Dialog, Westlaw, Dow Jones, etc...) and advised the staff member (not an MLS) running the library what standard works she should purchase to support the staff. Created a secure storage facility for publications that were security sensitive with a log that people could use to check-out these sensitive materials. kept the key so that there was no chance that materials could be taken without my knowledge.
