Daily Duties at Northridge Hospital Medical Center:
Intakes (admissions), treatment planning, discharge planning, conducting group therapy sessions in the Inpatient and Outpatient units. Treatment focus was on adults, with chronic depression, anxiety, bipolar, dementia, various forms of psychosis, and co-occurring alcoholism or substance-abuse. In therapy sessions, discussed realistic goal-setting, situational coping strategies, anger management techniques, and gave clear handouts for patients' references after discharge. Met on regular basis for treatment team meetings with psychiatrists and nursing staff, to ensure continuity of care. Also participated in hearings on the units with DMH court officers to discuss patients' capacity to make decisions about their ongoing care, in the hospital and post-discharge. As part of discharge planning, I worked with social workers to determine after-discharge housing (if needed, such as a sober-living facility, nursing home, or therapeutic group home setting), follow-up with therapists (MFTs, LCSWs, psychologists) and psychiatrists for ongoing medication evaluations, as well as community services, like AA, NA, Ala-Non, etc.
What they like about Northridge Hospital Medical Center:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
