Daily Duties at Ibm:
Transition Program & Project Manager (Infrastructure) managing complete programs and projects for various IBM clients. My last assignment included being a Networks Program and Project Manager for a major energy corporation (NiSource) with over 300 major sites to include Nuclear and Fossil Power Generation, Gas and Oil Distribution. Performing major purchases for data center build outs and migrations, managed major phone system installs such as Avaya Systems, major LAN/WAN upgrades (to include VOIP, Riverbed, and Firewalls) to then running very complex enterprise-wide deployments (over challenging networks) of XP/OS upgrades to Windows 7, SAV to SEP Malware Upgrades, MS IE Remediation/Upgrades, Single Sign-on, Wireless Network Installations, Software Deployment Systems Upgrades, to the extent of managing Federally regulated application upgrades and system decommissions. Additionally, I assisted and mentored other PM’s on the account, assisted executive management to setup better management systems processes and procedures to better run the account fiscally and in general as the account went from a steady state effort, to a steady state and new projects account, and thereby significantly expanding revenues and profitability for IBM, and expanded functionality for the customer. In previous assignments I have led the effort to take existing client data center operations and transferring/transitioning/migrating them into an IBM managed data center operations. Key leadership for all projects, leading customer meetings, leading internal meetings for status and solutioning, and then presenting solutions to the customer on behalf of IBM. Solutions included OOAD, UML, SDLC, AGILE, using tools like Rose, JIRA, and WSAD, and several other IBM product solutions. Client’s have been multi-$Billion operations such as Enterprise–Fleet headquartered in St. Louis, and Lexis-Nexis with Corporate offices in Dayton, NYC and Oxford, England. Program and Project Management duties included ordering and the build out of data centers and networks (to include SAN networks), application transition/migration, global help desk transition, security and firewall build out and management, and to ensure scope, budget, and schedule stayed within the solutioned guidelines. Each assignment had management responsibilities working with off-shore support in up to four major off-shore entities simultaneously.
What they like about Ibm:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
