Daily Duties at Discover Financial Servcies:

Innovative thought leader of DFS Direct Banking application platforms across deposit and lending businesses. Directing the global technology team of over 1000 development resources in the execution of the largest transformational program DFS has undertaken, replacement of their core banking platform that also included the green-field development of a new world class custom call center application. This multi-million dollar program consists of the deployment of the first US implementation of a Universal Banking Platform as a replacement for an outsourced solution, integration into over 50 existing DFS internal and external systems, supporting of 300 banking business process across the entire banking value chain. Strategic partner and visionary leading the execution of integration activities associated with an M&A activity within the lending business unit, integrating over 30 systems and retiring 13 with more retirements in the plan as the core banking platform rollout continues with its second phase. Also drove execution of team in the development in support of launching several new lending offerings (Student Lending, Home Lending, and Home Equity Lending). Change agent focusing on maturing the technology and business operating models through the introduction of new ideas, tools and methodologies. Automated discovery of an application portfolio analysis tool that reduced the time spent performing manual impact analysis and documentation by over 70% resulting in a 28% YOY cost savings opportunity from time saved within application development and support teams. Prepare impact analysis, functional specifications, and designs to meet business objectives. Understand evolving business needs and technology capabilities to optimize our information and service management approaches. is Results-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritize. Communicate and facilitate; build, lead and inspire teams. interact with senior business and technology leadership on significant business or technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Prepares the annual Information Technology budget, including corporate-wide capital budgetary responsibilities and the development of an IT resource allocation schedule. reviews and approves contracts with outside vendors and service providers. to lead RFP processes for application development, support and Infrastructure outsourcing as well as consulting engagements. Communicate with technology leadership about significant technology decisions that need to be made (e.g. datacenter transitions, major outsourcing agreements, initiatives with large capital charges, etc.) - Provide oversight in relation to security procedures (i.e. platform and system access). - Be a champion for process improvement through the application of Lean methodologies Guide teams responsible for day-to-day operations and on-going management processes • Foster a strong customer service mind-set throughout the technology team, while championing thought leadership and innovation as business partners. • Continuously improve the Application Development and support processes • Identify and complete opportunities for automation • Improve internal development and support processes • Collaborate with senior technology, IT and product colleagues to ensure all Roadmaps/Application Development projects are managed as an Enterprise portfolio and integrated with IT Architecture and IT Operations. • Ensure Application Development initiatives are well managed and deliver on expectations • Partner with senior IT Application Development colleagues to provide strong project management and governance processes for the overall project portfolio. • Promote agile application development where appropriate. • Lead the technology business planning and budget management process as well as central technology functions. • Actively champion a robust talent management process; provide candid feedback and high impact coaching to managers and associates.
