Daily Duties at Aristocrat Technologies:
I was hired to manage the slot product roadmap for North America. This included managing software and hardware releases of both video reel and mechanical wheel product, and collaborating on the design of product attraction sign packages. The company had just acquired another major competitor and I was tasked with putting a product life cycle management process in place. I proposed a new global process to product life cycle management based on the work of Robert G. Cooper, a leading expert in new product development processes. I met with executive team and presented the product proposal. It went through several revisions and the process was ultimately accepted and implemented across the entire organization. Full implementation took about 9 months. I met with external hardware vendors, once a month, interested in providing their solutions to cash validation, slot machine lighting, slot machine attraction features, and various internal computer components. I met 20-30 times a year with external game designers and was responsible for filtering possible game ideas and brand license relevant to a slot machine. I held weekly meetings with the engineering, regulatory, and operations team members of 8-10 people to evaluate product status, product changes, and address software challenges that may have arisen in the field. I was responsible for the product roadmap, launch preparations, and marketing initiation. We released 2 slot games a month, and had one very significant operating system launch (the first in 7 years.) I met with game designers bi-weekly to evaluate graphics, game design, game psychology, and other interactive features consistent with game play, product success, and documented product requirements. .
What they like about Aristocrat Technologies:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
