Daily Duties at Progressive Gaming:
I was hired to manage a team of thirteen slot and table games product managers, a mathematician, graphic artists, and developers. I worked daily with the product team to improve game play characteristics. We worked on the user interface, bonus round behavior, psychology of play, visual splendor and attraction, and match mathematical characteristics to target markets. Additionally, I was tasked with securing major recognized brands to base and develop slot games or table games on. I explored many options that I and members of the product team thought might be successful and accessible. We ultimately secured the KISS (rock n’ roll group) and Dick Clark rights. I was tasked with improving the volume of slot game development output and decided to do this through transferring existing games from their original software platforms to different and newer platforms to enhance marketability, and by contracting with external development partners experienced in different software and different markets. By doing this, I was able to keep each team focused on the markets and skills they were good at, and accelerate game development. I spent time with each of the development teams, internal and external, ensuring that market and product requirements were being adhered to as written by our product management team. For markets where we weren’t selling slot games, and weren’t likely to due to regulatory constraints, I was tasked with monetizing our existing library of games. I sought proposed partners and proposed selling licenses to our games. I was able to sign two significant deals and generated a new source of unexpected revenue. I reported to the VP of Marketing and would provide a bi-weekly formal report on activities. We spoke informally on a daily basis. Because of the nature of my role, I had regular meetings with the CEO and the Executive VP of Sales and Marketing to update on progress, and I would regularly meet with company investors.
What they like about Progressive Gaming:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
