Daily Duties at Cvs Pharmacy:
1. Quality Assurance: responsible for accurate verification and drug utilization review of each prescription before completion. This includes making necessary clinical interventions based on drug-drug interactions and/or contraindications. 2.Hiring and Scheduling: I conduct interviews and hire pharmacy technician applicants. In addition to hiring I make the pharmacy schedule based on the allotted number of technician hours and needs of the pharmacy. 3. Team Motivation/Leadership: As a part of our goal of providing excellent customer service my store receives a weekly customer service score comprised of customer surveys. I am responsible for conducting a daily team huddle in order to relay to my staff how we are doing regarding service. As a leader this allows me let my team know what is expected of them, to commend positive actions and to address any negative behavior. In addition to team huddles, I often represent my store on district conference calls with my pharmacy supervisor and district manager. On these calls we discuss an array of topics from company matters to federal regulations. I make sure urgent matters are handled immediately and pertinent information is relayed to the pharmacy manager. 4. Inventory Management: My role is to understand that too little inventory negatively affects customer service and too much inventory is money sitting on the shelf, in order to maintain this delicate balance I must make sure staff members are completing daily company mandated inventory functions. I have experience preparing for and assisting with the annual store inventory conducted by a third party auditing firm. I also routinely order and conduct state mandated monthly audits of schedule II medications. Furthermore, I have conducted the state mandated biennial controlled substance inventory. 5.Immunzation Chairperson: I am the only immunizing pharmacist at my store and as a result I am responsible for all program materials and the ordering of all vaccines and supplies. In addition to administering on-site vaccines I organize and conduct off-site immunization clinics in the community by partnering with local businesses. Furthermore, I am responsible for ensuring the proper storage and disposal of all vaccines and medical waste in compliance with OSHA/state regulations. 6.Specialty Connect Coach: Specialty Connect is a CVS/Pharmacy customer program created to conveniently provide patients with specialty drugs for diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and various forms of cancer that may not be readily available at their local retail pharmacy. This program allows these life saving drugs to be delivered directly to the patients home or local CVS. As coach for this program is was my responsibility to undergo training before its launch and to educate my staff on program details so that they would be able to assist customers. Now that the program is up and running my job is to make sure staff are properly documenting and storing these medications upon arrival. 7.Preceptor: As a preceptor I get to help student pharmacist apply textbook knowledge to practical situations. I supervise them as they communicate with doctors, counsel patients and give immunizations. 8.Smoking Cessation: As CVS becomes the first retail chain to stop selling tobacco products, the pharmacist will play a large role. Patients that wish to quit smoking may solicit the help of a pharmacist. My role is to access the readiness of the patient to quit, counsel patient on potential withdrawal symptoms, counsel patient on OTC smoking cessation products, and refer them to their doctor for potential prescription smoking cessation medication. 9.Patient Care Calls: Calls made by pharmacist concerning new prescriptions that have not been picked up after being filled for 7 days. This provides the pharmacist with opportunities for counseling and clinical intervention. Many times patients put off starting and new medication due to cost or fear of potential side effects. If a patient can not afford a medication I call the doctor with more affordable alternatives. Also, by explaining that the benefits of a medication outweigh the risks or letting the patient know what to look out for usually eases their concern. 10.Stores Own Sales Report: This monthly report evaluates how pharmacists and staff affect every dimension of pharmacy operations including sales, payroll budget, inventory, customer service, and clinical initiatives. I evaluate and complete this report every other month(6 of 12 months). My evaluation must recognize my teams wins and loses compared to company set guidelines and the previous months score. Upon recognizing our loses I must come up with a SMART(specific, measurable, assignable, realistic, timely) plan to positively affect any area we are lacking and implement this plan into the daily actions of my team in order to drive results.
What they like about Cvs Pharmacy:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
