Daily Duties at Progressive Gaming:
We were on the cutting edge of gaming technology and the regulatory framework for gaming products. I was promoted from the Executive Director of Licensed Products to Vice President of Gaming Technology to enhance our organizational and product capabilities related to gaming technology. I was responsible for managing five key areas of the business: slot machines, wireless betting, sports wagering, table games, and product licensing. Three areas, slot machines, wireless betting, and sports wagering were facing competitive and technological challenges and may task was to upgrade the company’s technology and secure the partnerships to enable the company produce technologically competitive product. One way I did this was to acquire a company that provided in-game betting for our sports business. I then worked with our development team to produce an in-game betting wireless product. Another key responsibility I had was to improve the technological state of our slot machines. I worked with gaming regulators to determine the acceptability of a networked gaming product (based on the differences between the internet and land-based gaming requirement), evaluated the possibility of designing the product ourselves, and evaluated potential acquisitions to obtain the technology. We ended up acquiring the technology. To support the new technology and its success in the market, we needed to upgrade our game development. I was responsible for securing game development partnerships. I evaluated three major game development companies capable of support the newer technology and secured deals with two of the three companies to produce 10 games a year for us. I reported to the Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, and regularly reported to the Board at quarterly meetings.
What they like about Progressive Gaming:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
