Daily Duties at Shfl Entertainment:
I was hired to manage and re-engineer the Electronic Table Systems business with annual revenue of $35m. My direction was to focus on product strategies and global product and team integration. I spent my time managing a globally diverse team of product directors and product managers to develop new products, evaluate global markets, visit with customers to determine their needs, explore untapped global markets, develop product roadmaps, and integrate globally diverse product. I managed 3 international product directors and 4 product managers. Each director was responsible for product management in a global region, one in Europe and Africa, one in Asia and Australia, and the other in North and South America. Each of them had 1 or 2 product managers reporting to them. In total, I was responsible for ensuring the team was satisfy the product needs of our customer base. The products included electronic gaming machines (slots) that delivered games through networks or from local operating system. The products included both software and hardware components. Each market was slightly unique, due to the differences in gaming regulations from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, so it was critical that the directors and product manager were planning product designs to fit with local regulations and were consistently designed to be used across all international markets to the extent possible. My daily activities included meeting with the development team on product output progress, holding status calls with product directors, holding creative meetings with product managers, working on product requirements, meeting with customers for sales presentations and information gathering, preparing sales forecasts, determining deal pricing, meeting with external development and sourcing partners, analyzing product performance, developing marketing material with the in-house Marketing team, evaluating competitor activity, prioritizing budgets, determining product direction, developing global strategies with local directors and operations teams, and scheduling product roadmaps. I reported directly to the COO. I met with the COO informally 2-3 times a week, and formally reported monthly on business activities: Sales, installs, service issues, product plans, launch dates for each jurisdiction, product output, and regulatory approvals. I held weekly calls/meetings with international directors, and I would travel to each region 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks at a time to review markets, visit with customers, evaluate product strategies, and assess local needs.
What they like about Shfl Entertainment:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
