Daily Duties at Winfield Land O' Lakes:
Sales rep to build a sales territory Develop a sales territory in Michigan, service customers with fertilizers, chemicals and grass seed to meet the customers needs., Sell the solution and insights programs Winfield has for customers to solve problems, Work closely with vendor reps to sell products, develop spray and fertilizer programs for customers, Increased sales by 100% in first 6 months of full time sales. Signed up 15 new accounts in first 6 months as full time rep. use a mapping program to develop a territory route of customers to call on daily. a sales call consists of setting an appointment with the customer when requested by the customer as the preferred way they like to do business. Once meeting them I ask questions such as what situation they may have going on that may need problem solving. We may ride around the golf course to look at things. It's my job to look for things that could be problems. I have to have enough knowldege to know what solutions are to the 100's of problems that can occur on a golf course are that a lawn care owner can have happen. Lawn care problems can be agronmoic or business related. I have to help them grow their business by promotions or maybe offering new services to their customers. With Nursery and Greenhouse customers we need to know about a whole different industry and issues. Business issues are one thing. that we help them grow their business. We have to scout fields looking for pests and recognizing the problems and solutions. When scouting you look for insects or diseases on the crop. Once you see an issue it needs to be identified. If we couldn't identify it we would take samples to the University to get a diagnosis. In all of these situations you need to be able to put a fertilizer, disease of some other type of program together for a customer. we use spreadsheets for many of these programs. We use powerpoint presentations for larger group meetings and Ipads are part of our tools. Program selling is very successful for this industry as you can get many customers on a whole years program many times. Not all customers go with that though so you need to be able to find ways to get orders from the guys who believe they have all the answers and don;t need your help. You have to be able to communicate successfully with the mom and pop customers as well as the National Accounts. We hold meetings for customers once or twice a year and have to talk in front of a group of 50 to 100 or more people. I have given many presentations in front of groups as large as 120 colleagues. We have to present products or programs and represent the vendor products we sell.
