Daily Duties at Elevance Renewable Sciences:
Research focuses on bio-refinery process for conversion of natural oils (e.g. soybean oil, Palm oil) to biofuels and high value specialty chemicals using Nobel Prize winning olefin metathesis technology. Major Projects: • Evaluating application of standard methodology to different oil feedstock. Conversion percentages compared using in-house GC methods • Examined metathesis sub-processes in detail (effect of feedstock impurities, change in catalyst, concentration and reaction conditions). • Evaluating performance of specialized commercial adsorbents to improve the quality of biorefinery produced olefins, especially 1-Decene with respect to reducing traces of other hydrocarbon cuts and impurities (phosphorus and ruthenium species). Hydrocarbons were tested for traces using in-house and new ASTM methods. • Laboratory experiments and risk assessment study of regenerating spent adsorbent.
