Daily Duties at Va Medical Center:
Research Study Coordinator for two studies, "Structural Brain MRI and Neurocognitive Function in Female Nurse and Male Combat Vietnam Veterans with Post traumatic Stress Disorder" ("The Context and Unremitting PTSD") study, and "ERP Abnormalities in Female Nurse and Male Combat Veterans with PTSD". The telephone recruitment process was used to recruit potential Vietnam Combat Veterans and Vietnam Nurses after receiving a response back to a sent letter stating their interest. Responsible for arranging all travel and hotel arrangements, as well as travel to and from their hotel to the VA Medical Center for their participation in the research studies. Nurses were recruited from all over the United States. Responsible for arranging all components of the study eligible to participate in. "Structural Brain MRI and Neurocognitive Function involved: an MRI, a Clinical Interview, and Neurocognitive Testing. "ERP Abnormalities in Female Nurse Vietnam Veterans and Male Combat Vietnam Veterans" involved: a Clinical Interview, Neurocognitive Testing, and an EEG. In addition to coordinating all eligible components for study participants, responsible for running subjects through the EEG, (Brain: Electroencephalography), to collect their brain responses so that the responses can be compared between genders, (i.e. between female nurses and male combat Vietnam Veterans with and without PTSD). Performed visual, memory, and attentional tasks on subjects to find out if there are differences in the performance ability of individuals with and without PTSD, as well as compare the brain responses that occur during the tests of attention in Vietnam Veterans with and without PTSD. Responsible for the consent process, the educational process for all subjects, and the scheduling of all components to both studies. The "Context and Unremitting PTSD" study had 67 subjects enrolled and the "ERP Abnormalities in Female Nurse and Male Combat Vietnam Veterans with PTSD" study had 119 subjects enrolled. Reviews and communicates customer service satisfaction with the research team. Identifies key processes and barriers in relation to customer service needs. Utilizes customer service feedback in the development of new practices that better meet customer service needs and expectations. Has worked collaboratively with the Principal Investigator for the Context Study to utilize customer input and feedback from previous studies to devise scripts that would best explain each of the 3 components to the Context study, in addition to devising the scheduling order for all of the questionnaires ,and the scheduling order for the cognitive testing. Takes responsibility for her own learning needs and personal development. Works to ensure that she is current in Nursing and research. Remains involved in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing, a society for a select group of nurses recognized for superior achievement, leadership qualities, and personal commitment to nursing excellence. Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with research participants, co-workers, and members of other disciplines to accomplish the goals of the research projects and research service, as well as contributes to the mission of The Medical Center. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills to promote positive patient/participant satisfaction. Works as the lead team member in the coordination of studies she is involved in, as well as functions as the lead person coordinating interactions with subjects. Focuses on the quality care provided to the participants to result in a positive outcome for them.
