Daily Duties at Merck:
Coordinated and conducted complex and basic preclinical studies in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations to evaluate the toxicity profile and potential adverse effects of compounds/drugs. Successfully coordinated and conducted over 40 Toxicology studies (ranging from 1 day to 2 years) individually or as part of a team during 12 years of employment, delivering quality results. Assisted ~40 fellow research biologists with study activities; prioritizing tasks and responsibilities to optimize operations. Managed ~15 employees on weekends and holidays; held accountable for all Toxicology studies and coordinated activities with 5 cross functional departments, maximizing week end productivity and staff performance while ensuring quality of work. Completed and submitted annual and bi-annual review of Animal Procedure Statements (APSs) for submission to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); reviewed study protocols, applied knowledge of study design to anticipate changes, and collaborated with management regarding changes and updates in order to submit APS Amendments in a timely manner. Helped shape and optimize operations by training 14 new hires, conducting departmental orientations for 8 senior staff members, and overseeing/mentoring a group of 6 fellow biologists, increasing confidence and productivity. Performed internal auditing of study data to ensure accuracy and quality of study reports. Provided technical guidance and served as a resource to peers ensuring activities were performed to established specifications and compliance with departmental procedures. Scheduled and coordinated ophthalmic examinations with 4 ophthalmologists across 5 functional departments at multiple sites. Actively participated in 9 functional teams; improved departmental efficiency, accuracy and reliability.
