Completed all phases of classroom training in all areas of the IRS Code in order to examine all tax returns(Form 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, payroll returns-Form 941, 940, W-2’s and 1099). 2. Responsible for auditing of the following tax returns: Form 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, payroll returns-Form 941, 940, W-2’s and 1099. 3. Processed cases that involved all tax issues under the IRS code. This included payroll issues for businesses that had employees. 4. Complete knowledge of accounting was required to perform the job. This involved the determination of the businesses’ accounting systems in the analysis of income and expense that was reported on the tax return. Also, each business internal control was examined to determine if there was the possibility of under reported income and the proper reporting of expense. 5. Records examined included cash receipts & cash disbursements, general ledger, general journal, trial balance, balance sheet and income statement. Supporting documentation such as invoices, bank accounts, check stubs and canceled checks was required and used as evidence. 6. A good working knowledge of the tax laws was required to conduct research using such sources as the internal revenue code, regulations, court cases and rulings to resolve issues and complete cases thoroughly and accurately. 7. Working knowledge of tax and financial accounting principles needed to understand, reconcile and analyze taxpayer’s books, records and financial statements. This was needed to identify and resolve issues and areas where compliance was questionable or lacking, and to recognize and consider indicators of fraud. 8. Written and Oral Communication-produced written products or case files that were complete, organized and understandable and presented in a logical manner even in the most complex situations. Work papers were sufficiently detailed, easy to follow and clearly reflected the tasks completed and conclusions reached. Written communications were required with taxpayers, accountants, attorneys and enrolled agents in establishing appointments, writing information document requests to obtain information and records from taxpayers in order to process the case and resolve all issues under it. 9. Computer Applications-knowledge of all computer applications required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of Windows XP and Windows 7 required. Also, internal programs were used in the completion of cases. A computer file was maintained for each case that was processed. 10. Oral Communications-Communication was required with the taxpayer, attorneys, accountants, enrolled agents and any other third party for the purpose of gathering information in processing cases. From 7/20/1970 thru August 1, 2004 N. J. Department of Labor and Workforce Development Position-Senior Auditor(Auditor I) Duties and Reponsibilities: 1. Audit and Examination of businesses required to determine liability for unemployment and disability taxes. 2. Enforced and researched the Unemployment Compensation Laws of the state of New Jersey in determining the liability for UI & DI taxes for each business 3. Audit of taxpayer’s books and records which consisted of Forms 941’s, 940’s, W-2’s, 1099’s, payroll records, state payroll returns and all Federal Income Tax Returns. This required to determine and reconcile all payroll expense. 4. Determined employee/independent contractor issues for each business. 5. Responsible for employee supervision and training of auditors in lower titles. Reviewed all cases processed by auditors in lower titles and submitted them to the proper divisions and individuals of the department. 6. Required to be an expert witness at hearings on cases where the taxpayer protested the tax issues of each case. Hearings involved the facts of the case and were based upon the auditor’s work papers and oral testimony. It, also, included criminal proceedings against employers and individuals. The Revenue Agent is responsible for the audit and examination of tax payers(individuals, partnerships, corporations). My responsibilities as a revenue agent was to do a pre-audit analysis of each taxpayer. This determined the focus of the examination and the determination of issues of the taxpayer to be examined. A complete knowledge of accounting was required to determine if all of the taxpayer's income was reported and the proper amount of tax expense was accurate. Proper documentation was required to resolve all income and expense issues under the IRS Code.
