Daily Duties at Porter Memorial Hospital:

As an ICU nurse, working in both sites, responsible for the assessment and care of ICU adult patients in its entirety, assisted in recovering open heart patients, care of balloon pumps, central lines, hemodialsis lines, chest tubes, foley, tube feedings, ventilator patients, trauma patients, surgical and medical patients, assessed for the need of critical drips and to maintain or titrate them, wound care, JP's, colostomy care, ortho care, drug over doses, DT's, patients in restraints, 2 point and 4 point, suicide watches, ETOH withdrawl, assist in donor transplantation in death, care of ortho patients in all retractions, splinting, immobilization, casting, CPM machines, as an ED nurse working in both site, responsible for the care of all age group patients in its entirety, emergency delivery, care of newborn, medical issues for all age groups, trauma, renal, ortho, surgical, cardiac, GI, stroke, STEMi or nonSTEMI, prepare for cathlab, surgery, infusion of blood on rapid infuser, warmed fluids, intubation, maintain airway, ventilator support, respiratory needs and treatments, external pacing, AED, critical drips initiate, maintain and titrate, code team member, keep doctor informed of any and all changes, pain control, insertion of IV lines, assist in central, permacath, chest tube insertion, Insert foley, NG, triage, assessment, disc harge, transfer out of hospital or admit to floor, prepare for surgery, or procedures,Performed the duties as a charge nurse, organize the flow of the ED, amublance arrival, patient arrival, scheduling staff, assignments for nurses, maintain radio contact with EMS for incoming patients, charge nurse for disasters internal and external, also for mock disasters external, keep Nursing Supervisor informed of needs, MD's aware of incoming issues or concerns, maintain safety for ED with lockdown if needed, security notify for security issues for patient care or safety of both patient, staff and family, discipline staff as needed, and direct to director if needed, give staff physical and emotional care, keep Nursing Supervisor informed of ED being flooded with ambulances and patients to keep from going on bypass or diversion, prepare for incoming or outgoing helicopter transports, obstetrical emergencies.
