Daily Duties at Sisters Of Mercy, Harbor View Mercy Hospital:

Responsible for Annual Operational Budget. I worked with each department and its director which include the billing department, nursing department, maintenance department, dietary department, medical staff, and support services (patient intake, medical records, front office staff, and clerical staff). I met one on one with each director to study the historical actual budget from past 5 years for a better annual budget outcome that includes peak month and low months along with the input from individual directors. This reduces the margin of error (plus/minus) by single digit difference from budgeted amount to actual amount. Responsible for the account receivable and account payable. I met with the billing department director and staff daily. We discuss the issues and challenges to turn the billing around so that the AR days can be further reduced. We discuss if a payer source is behind or late, in this case I will be contacting them for answers. I meet with the account payable department daily to prioritize the vendors that need to be paid versus the cash in hand the hospital has. Responsible on the growth of the behavioral health services the hospital provides. I meet with the marketing department and the Vice President of Marketing at the main hospital, St. Edward's Mercy Hospital; once a month to discuss marketing options or opportunities in the communities we serve. Responsible for Outpatient “Rehabilitation Services for Persons with Mental Illness” (RSPMI) program billing and receivables. I worked with the billing department director to decrease the amount of account receivable days (AR Days) from 145 days to 70 days, I also worked with each director and each physician/provider to reduce the numbers of denials and late charges by providing additional training and in-service on proper coding; I worked with all department to establish dead lines when turn in charges. I report weekly to the Vice President of Specialized Services by phone and attend a monthly meeting with the rest of the Assistant Vice Presidents, Hospital Department Directors, Vice Presidents, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and the Chief Executive Officer at the main hospital.

What they like about Sisters Of Mercy, Harbor View Mercy Hospital:

You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
