Daily Duties at National Institutes Of Health (Nih):

Analyzed neurosteroid concentrations in blood samples from animals with altered seizure thresholds at various times in their menstrual cycle using combined Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). Helped elucidate causes and treatments for catamenial epilepsy. Reported directly to Chief of Mass Spectroscopy at NIH. I removed blood samples from the freezer, thawed them, tested them in a GC/MS machine. Problem solved when the machine's answer did not make sense. Learned to operate a combined GC/MS machine. Learned to derivatize neurosteroids and run specialized combined Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) equipment. Obtained the concentrations of blood samples to help more senior teammates study the causes and treatments for a complicated disease (catemenial epilepsy). (reduced seizure thresholds before menstrual cycle.)

What they like about National Institutes Of Health (Nih):

You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
