Daily Duties at The University Of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center:
• Senior administrative official and chief financial officer for an academic department consisting of ten full-time physicians, and a staff of thirty two personnel including nursing, research, and administrative staff. • Directly responsible for financial management of departmental budget with revenues of $4.7 million, and operating funds totaling $10.5 million consisting of state, donor, clinical income, and federal grant awards. • This included preparation and analysis of budgets, reconciling financial data, variance analysis, and reporting business performance to the department chairman and division chairman. • Directed work performance of clinical and administrative staff which included recruitment, retention, salary reviews, personnel evaluations, policy administration, disciplinary and termination processes. • Managed fixed assets of $1 million and 5,400 SF of academic and research laboratory space. • Reduced overhead by taking on more responsibility with creative and administrative projects. • Established and implementation of an effective budgeting and accounting system that improved efficiency and reduced costs.
